So many Americans may avoid thinking about death and may not consider life insurance. Companies may also differ on what they offer and what they recommend. In a study about life insurance, company Well Point Inc, Indianapolis, surveyed approximately 2,500 US residents 18 years or older. They found out that most people were not prepared for death in any way and had not considered life insurance. Companies that offer life insurance policies were typically not sought out. With questions about life insurance planning and planning for the future in general, Well Point’s survey revealed that 31% of respondents said they did not think about or plan for death because they did not want to think about death. Hence, they typically hadn’t planned for it either. Up to 69% of participants had considered life insurance. Companies did not influence their preferences and as much as 50% of the group was not prepared to care for beneficiaries if they passed away earlier than expected. In the group that was surveyed, about as many as 38% of the people and 32% of participants with children preferred to spend the money on pleasure rather life insurance. Companies that offered life insurance were typically unclear to them. The people surveyed were typically more concerned with buying fun things today and did not want to be anxious or worried. This was in sharp contrast to the group that did have life insurance and who also planned for their future and felt more at ease with life in general as well.
